Bristleworm in the dark

Picture and text:  Rudolf Svensen

My light sweeps into the dark abyss. I am hanging in 20 metres of water in the middle of a Norwegian fjord. My purpose with this dive is to capture images of a Lanternfish. They are moving towards the surface during the night. My luck has not been too good and I soon have to return to the boat at the surface. I pelagic bristleworm is circling around my head. I have tried several times to capture good images of this animal, but the transparent body combined with fast movement has done all my images of this little worm useless.

Before I leave, I shot one image of the bristleworm. Several days later I find that the only image I took on that dive was a hit. It'll probably never happen again.
