Atlantic Halibut |

Atlantic Halibut |
Atlantic Halibut is the largest
flatfish in Norwegian waters. Fishermen have caught
specimen with a weight of 300 kilos. This is however not
common, and the average size is less than 100 kilos.
Anglers have caught Halibuts with a size of more than
150 kilos in the deep fjords of Norway, and it is a very
popular fish among anglers and game fishers.
Divers seldom observe Halibuts. They usually thrive on
deeper water and the fish is also very shy. The few
times I have spotted Halibuts in the sea, they usually
make off when I try to photograph them.
The white meat of the halibut is highly priced. This has
led to considerable decrease in the Atlantic Halibut
stock. Due to this has caching halibuts with fishing
nets been prohibited in Norway the last decades. |
